A New Era Begins: Knights of Central Florida Merge with the Florida Rhinos
Today marks a historic moment in Florida football as two powerhouse organizations unite under one banner. The Knights of Central Florida and the Florida Rhinos have officially merged, forming a stronger, faster, and more dynamic franchise that will continue forward as THE FLORIDA RHINOS.
This merger represents a bold step toward elevating the standard of excellence, competition, and community impact across the Central Florida area.
Leadership for the New Era
The newly unified Florida Rhinos proudly announce the following leadership team:
Coaching Staff
- Head Coach: Dwight Gifford
- Defensive Coordinator: Keldric Wheeler
- Offensive Coordinator: Anthony Smith Sr.
These three leaders bring unmatched passion, strategy, and vision—setting the tone for a culture built on discipline, grit, and championship ambition.
Former Knights owner Anthony Smith Sr. will transition into a minority ownership role, continuing to support the mission while stepping back from day‑to‑day operations.
Additional front office and staff appointments are currently being finalized and will be announced soon.
Ron Scarlata wants to focus more on his ownership role with the Rhinos and will also act as a Special Advisor to Head Coach Dwight Gifford. Coach Gifford played several years for Coach Scarlata back in the day. Coach Scarlata said he was proud to turn the head coaching role over to Coach Dwight Gifford!

This merger is more than a business move—it’s a commitment to building a premier football program that represents toughness, unity, and the relentless spirit of Florida athletes and fans.
The Rhinos are charging into a new chapter, and the entire Central Florida area is invited to be part of the journey.

The Florida Rhinos are looking to build off their 2026 inaugural season in which they reached the conference championship game! If you are interested in playing or coaching for the Florida Rhinos next season, please use the CONTACT US section on the website and give us your information which needs to include your phone number and what position you are looking to try out for. If you are looking to coach, please let us know what position you are looking to coach.
It's a new season! ALL POSITIONS are OPEN! Come out and earn a starting spot! Go to the section "CONTACT US" and get on the RHINOS RADAR!
You can also scroll down and follow the "EVENTS CALENDAR" section on the website and come out to team workouts to introduce yourself to the coaches and tryout. The earlier you get out there, the more time coaches have to evaluate.
FLORIDA RHINOS FOOTBALL workouts to begin in july!
The Florida Rhinos will begin to put on workouts starting in July. Please check the EVENTS CALENDAR on the Rhinos website for more information. Unless it's posted for just offense or just defense, the field will be open to all Florida Rhinos players to work out. We ask that you stay out of the coach's drills unless the coach request your participation.
